Odd Ball

I’m sure everyone says “My kid is so weird” but I seem to say it everyday. Case in point…we set up Shannon’s pool recently. While playing one day she decided to be a crocodile and insisted we feed her like one (the Crocodile Hunter’s memory is alive and well in our family).

Shannon's Stats

Like every expectant mother I’ve been trying to get as much done before “Junior” comes. Shannon’s 3 year old checkup fell under that list. Here are her stats

Height: 38 inches (35%)
Weight: 31 pounds (25%)
HEALTHY!

And I was afraid I would have 6ft girl one day…let’s just hope Junior doesn’t follow the same pattern as his runt of a big sister.

Momma's Little Helper

I knew my child was getting a little lazy when after riding her bike for 2 seconds asked if she could have a scooter like Grandapapa’s (motorized). Several friends have made helper charts using clipart. With a little effort and about $7-8, I now have a customized, laminated, Velcro chart that Shannon loves. She’s filling her bucket with diamonds and hope to earn her “rags and tatters” Cinderella doll. I’m amazed at what my little girl can do when she puts her mind to it! I can email you the clipart if you want.

The Second Time Around

No one is taking about their pregnancy, but I’ve gotten several requests for pics. Let me preface my photos…This pregnancy has been completely different from Shannon’s. Minimal nausea (thank goodness), my cravings in the beginning consisted of salt/cheese (pizza, cheese and crackers, and grilled cheese were consumed daily…it didn’t help that my brother worked at the Mellow Mushroom and I blame that for much of my early weight gain.) Then cravings moved to sweets, with a brief period of peanut butter in between.

I was quite surprised to get a call from my OB saying I had failed my first glucose tolerance test. It’s no secret that I love my sweets but I had made a real effort to avoid sugar and carbs the morning of my first test. My fasting glucose tolerance test (since most of you will never experience one) was fasting followed by an baseline blood draw, then drinking 100mg of dextrose, then 3 more blood draws on the hour. By noon I was eating again. Luckily I was “within normal limits” on my fasting test…never have I been so excited to be average. But, during the week I was waiting of my results I tried to live like a diabetic and it was HORRIBLE! So, my heart goes out to all moms with gestational diabetes and even more to those who live with type 1 everyday.

Now, I’m just tired. Sciatic pain comes and I can no longer keep up with the pace of my walking group. I FEEL the heat and am not looking forward to delivering in August and then waiting 6 weeks before I can get into a pool. BUT, all in all I have been very blessed and can’t wait to see Junior (where as with Shannon I was scared to death that they would allow me to take a baby home).

Ode to our Fathers

Happy Fathers Day...to the two greatest dad's I know. I would love to live in a place where every child had a father like you...I think it would be a lot like Heaven.

White Wedding

A friend of the family’s had a wedding reception at our house this past weekend. It seemed like we prepped the house and yard FOREVER! We didn’t even have to do the food prep, but after helping decorating and setting up, I was exhausted. With all that was going on Shannon announced that she didn’t want to get married. Fine with me! Once the cake started to be assembled Shannon went into obsession mode and decided that she did want to get married so she could have a BIG cake. Everyone was on Shannon watch to make sure she didn’t add flowers or swipe some frosting. When Angela arrived Shannon pestered her until she finally cut the cake and all was right in the world.

Shannon later stole the bouquet from who ever caught it and chased her new “friend” Tyler until he went home. The next day Shannon declared she would marry Tyler and get her big wedding cake. Luckily we had leftover wedding cake and Tyler is now forgotten.

Breakfast of Champions!

I was searching for some motivation to get Shannon to stay dry throughout the night. Recognizing that she is my daughter, I offered a choice of cocoa chrispies or hot chocolate for breakfast. It has worked like a charm!
My apologies for the lack of posts...it's been crazy lately and you'll soon see once I blog our most recent events!
